In the Sydney Morning
Herald and The Age in the Traveller section of the newspaper on March 7th,
2008, James Stewart wrote about the new accommodation on offer in Tasmania. His
special report featured D’Entrecasteaux at Howden; The Peninsula Tas at Dover;
Red Feather Inn at Hadspen; The Priory at Bothwell; The Winged House at Table
Cape, and Corinna Wilderness Experience at Corinna.
Here is what James wrote
about Corinna:
“...last year’s upgrade of
this old mining settlement in the Tarkine rainforest has transformed a stop
–off en route to Strahan into a bonafide destination in its own right.
Alongside snug accommodation in cute miners’ buildings, new solar-powered
cottages provide the sort of queen-size beds and modern-rustic living the gold
prospectors from days of old could only have dreamed of. Similarly, the
ramshackle charm of the rebuilt Tarkine Hotel belies a city-style menu. Yet the
focus of the location remains the Tarkine wilderness. The largest temperate
rainforest in Australia is now accessible by kayaks and boardwalks as well as
by cruise on the historic Arcadia II riverboat. And Cradle Mountain and Strahan
are only a day trip away, Corinna’s managers emphasise. Who are they kidding?
With no televisions or newspapers and do mobile phone reception without an
arduous 20 minute ascent up a hill, who wants to rejoin the real world?”
James has captured the
mood that visitors are taking advantage of in increasing numbers. An escape to
a remote wilderness to rejuvenate or explore, is resonating with people from
Tasmania, the mainland and from overseas.
A warm welcome, great food
and comfortable accommodation await guests. For bookings call Garry or Letitia
